The idea is to fit a removeable cross brace on my SS so it’s similar to the early 750 900 sport frame which never cracked around the headstock.
With the removeable one like on the corse 851 frames i can fit the airbox which will need to be open top (most are modded with k and n)BBB 888 No1 is mine http://2wheelwiki.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/

Hi Imola, I think that it’s a “Halving joint “, bolted together, rather than a slotted one. I think that it was used on the Corse 888’s so they could use a 1 piece airbox. I don’t think that you can buy them, it’s more a DIY job.

On the look out for a metal halving joint or get a solid piece of round bar cut/machined and drilled. http://2wheelwiki.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/

Any decent engineer/engineering workshop could make them mate.
I’d like a couple of pairs to convert one of my 851 frames to take a one piece airbox, but…
TBH as I’ve already got a 3 three piece Corse airbox, added to the fact that the factory did away with the cross brace on the 888’s, I wonder if it’s really needed?
The 851/888 frames being that much superior to the “Bandy” 900 items, no problems with cracking frames on them despite kicking out quite a bit more power. http://2wheelwiki.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/
Should have kept your 851/944 mate, then you wouldn’t have to chase around trying to solve this problem…Steve R

Steve Mr R
Yes i know i should have kept it but i just couldnt keep up the stupid hours i was working to fund its rebuild and along
With the project and me we ground to a halt.
I feel much better these days doing sensible hours but im always
Skint now with 3 young children to feed and water. Before long…. as Dad keeps hinting to giving me the keys to his VERY rare hailwood mille rep as he struggles
To ride it now at 68 years old.It will get ridden though and no doudt when the engine needs a look over i will be coming down to callington as tbh i wouldnt trust anyone else
Working on a bevel engine.BBB 888 No1 is mine http://2wheelwiki.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/

Custom bicycle framebuilders use a tube splitter fixture for belt-drive frames. Here’s one example from my side of the pond: Tube Splitters – all – www.paragonmachineworks.com

Without knocking the design etc, I think the bottom front edge of my tank could be close to the lugs and bolt ends nearest to the airbox.
