    Seal Mate product review

thought i would make a quick mention to my new best friend seal mate.. Fix Leaking Fork Seals With | SealMate.net

i have noticed a few people lately mentioning that there fork seals are leaking, maybe its due to the wet weather causing dirt to stick on there forks and being dragged up into the seals,

anyway i have recently used these on my mates 2005 CBR600 who had a leak like a lady in labour and just the other day on my 2006 zx10

i was expecting to have chunks of seal breaking of, the tool itself getting stuck or simply making it worse and needing a seal replacement costing $$$.

but amazingly it did what it said it was designed to do, clean the crap out of the seals making a nice snug fit once again.

once i took the bike for a ride thats when it really made a difference and now nice and dry.

anyway for 5 minutes work its saved me hundreds,

i cant see them working if your seals are damaged.

i regularly treat my fork legs with teflon dry lubricant for that very reason, i think it helps reduce grit and water sticking to the stanchions. been doing it for over 10 years and never had a seal leak.

…or just slide a feeler gauge in between the seal & the folk to clean out anything that is in there.

one of my rgv fork seals has been weeping and thinking about this product inspired me to try and get it to reseal by cleaning

i just bounced the forks, hosed stanchion down with WD40, wiped it clean and kept repeating until i couldnt see any particulates on my rags and hey presto it was sealing again and hasn't leaked since (a couple of weeks now).

i guess some muck had gotten under the dust seal, clean it up and it started sealing again im stoked heaps easier than ripping it all apart! so yeah you dont necessarily need to use their product to use their method

Great as a quick fix, but if a bike is a few years old why wouldn't you want to pull the forks apart, clean them and add fresh oil and seals? New oil makes a big difference to suspension.

sure but its just my bunky, the forks were stripped and cleaned and oil freshened when i rebuilt it a couple of years ago. maybe the dust seals are a bit knackered and letting some grit go through to the seals and they will suffer accelerated wear and i will have to replace them soon anyway.. but not before i have to!

If this product does work and works well, I will still be getting the forks checked and re oiled upon the next service.

Yeah this is exactly what MartyMoose recommended I do when he set up the suspension on my ZX12

Apologies, the comment wasn't directed at you. From what I've seen you know what you are doing and are switched on.

I've turned up at the track and seen a slight weep around a fork tube. This approach would be a great quick fix.
