Product Description
Plug N’ Plate® is a new concept in plating small parts. Our unique mains power pack supplies just the right amount of power allowing you to brush, and in some situations, dip plate your smaller components. The Plug N’ Plate® system will also allow you to patch repair areas where the original plating has worn away.Plug N’ Plate® is ideal for vintage vehicle restorers, antique collectors and dealers, and small workshops doing prototype work. What could be simpler? The Plug N’ Plate® wand is attached to the red plug on the Power Pack, and the alligator clip is attached to the work-piece. The end of the wand is covered in an absorbent bandage, which is soaked in the plating solution for a few seconds.By simply stroking the part with swift brush strokes, the circuit is closed and the plating metal bearing solution goes to work, depositing its beautiful layer onto the object.Plug N’ Plate® is perfect for gold plating car emblems. Simply strip the chrome off with Chrome Stripper, then apply the gold. Full instructions are included.Plug N’ Plate® may be applied onto most metals. To see which kit plates onto which metal, read our instruction booklet. To plate onto Stainless Steel, use the Plug N’ Plate® Copper system. When gold plating onto stainless, apply our Stainless Steel Activator For Gold with a stainless wand and 4.5V power pack, then you may gold plate directly onto the stainless part.We do not recommend plating aluminum directly with our Plug N’ Plate® kits. Use our Flash Copper Kit with zincate primer first, then you may Plug N’ Plate® onto the copper. To plate plastic, or other non-conductive parts, spray with Conductive Paint, dip in Tinning Solution, then tank plate with acid copper, then use a Plug N’ Plate® kit.

Bought a Caswell kit a week ago and have finally figured out how to make it work well. Here are a few of my learnings:
1) Kit documentation refers to a 4.5 volt transformer with it…but mine came with 1.7 volt transformer. I checked with Gil Garceau who has a Caswell kit as well and he confirmed he had the 4.5 volt transformer. I plan to ask Caswell about it, but since I had a leftover 4.5 volt Sony transformer from some now long gone gizmo…I swapped the leads and I was in business.
2) If you find yourself doing what I did and using another transformer…be very conscious of + and – leads on the transformer…mix them up and nothing seems to happen (I did…switched and then it worked).
3) For little stuff like screw heads, safety valves, whistles and the like…I found a glass “jigger” about 1/4″ full of solution, set in a dish of hot water and kept hot on a small coffee warmer worked great. Temp of the nickel plating solution makes a huge difference…when warm the plating is almost instantaneous…not warm it works poorly if at all. If the plating peters out and seems to stop, dump out the solution and add more…you have likely depleted the nickel content at that point. (mine is a nickel kit only, but I assume similar process for copper)
4) Items to be plated must be very, very clean. I found cleaning with Dremel wire brush followed by denatured alcohol and finally distilled water worked well. Handle parts with fresh gloves to avoid fingerprints which will not plate.
5) Little “wand” thingy they give you works fine… Read more ›

Big fan of this kit. Used it to plate keys (yes there’s a good reason for plating my keys). Worked very well. Called support for questions prior to purchase. Representative was knowledgeable and the conversation was actually quite stimulating as he went through the process and the chemistry behind the process with me. Impressed by this company. Even more impressed by this product. If you’re brushing on small items, even keys, I would suggest looking into the nubby wand attachments they carry (real name escapes me) to ease in the detail of the process. Can’t wait to try some other metal kits! Thanks.

I re-plated my expensive sink faucet and drain fixtures. They look like new.
Advice: I used diluted muratic acid [HCl] to clean them first.

too slow and inconsistant. plated alittle and then nothing on the same piece. Yes I tried multible fixes like checking the ground and using enough chemical. The surface was cleaned several times, just an under powered until I believe.

It took a while to get the hang of using the product, but once I got the timing down it worked fine.
