It comes from a family of hooligans, its prototype revelled in the nickname of “The Beast,” and its blend of 180 hp, light weight, and raised one-piece handlebar sounds like a recipe for uncontrollable wheelies and general craziness. As you'd expect of a bike that kicks out huge amounts of torque almost from idle and weighs just 417 pounds without fuel, the KTM is heart-stoppingly, arm-stretchingly fast.

Fortunately for those who appreciate the Duke’s design and intent to satisfy, KTM brought the venerable 690 back to the States for 2014 and it returns for 2015.

The RC's powerplant is a fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, DOHC, single-cylinder four-stroke that makes 44 horsepower and features a balance shaft to minimize vibration. The engine is housed in a chassis that features a steel-tube trellis frame, die-cast aluminum swingarm and top-shelf WP suspension components. Braking components include a four-piston Brembo front caliper with a single disc, while aluminum wheels carry 110/70 and 150/60 Metzeler tires. Claimed dry weight is 323 pounds.

The 390 Duke is an expansion to the Duke line that already includes the 1290 Super Duke R and 690 Duke. The Austrian manufacturer pulled out all stops on this state-of-the-art, liquid-cooled 4-stroke engine from the Bosch electronic fuel-injection system to the four-valve cylinder head with DLC-coated finger followers. These engine components all combine maximum power with impressive refinement and reliability. WP suspension components as well as a top quality ABS braking system by Brembo ensure precision and full control..
